Venison and Health
Venison is nutritious, low in fat and cholesterol, high in vitamins, riboflavin, vitamin B6, and thiamine. So hunters this season are being asked to do something a little unconventional: donate a deer to a local helpful organization.
The Columbiana County chapter of Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry recently joined forces with the county Department of Jobs and Family Services and the Community Action Agency to make sure local food pantries and lockers are full of venison.
In the past, agencies typically accepted ground beef and chicken, requiring workers to find specials at local stores, but this year is proving to be something different.
