Poached Pears

Pears poached in a cinnamon sauce. Honey can be used instead of golden syrup. Serve with low fat yogurt or cream.

Ingredients

2 cup water
1 cinnamon stick
1 Tbsp lemon juice
2 tsp cornflour
1 Tbsp water, extra
4 Tbsp maple syrup
2 firm ripe pears, 5 oz each


Method

  1. Peel pears, keeping the stalk intact.
  2. Combine syrup, water and cinnamon stick in a saucepan over medium heat until simmering; add pears. Cook for approximately 15 minutes or until pears are soft when poked with a sharp knife.
  3. Place pears onto serving dishes. Remove cinnamon stick from sauce and discard. Bring sauce to the boil; add lemon juice. Combine corn flour with extra water and stir into sauce until thick. Spoon over pears.
